Rotary Club celebrated Teacher’s Day by felicitating teachers

Bhubaneswar : September is Rotary International designated Basic Education and Literacy month and a time to commemorate teachers who are the heart of the education system. Teachers deserve our appreciation for their commendable and significant contribution as Nation Builders. The T-E-A-C-H initiative of Rotary India Literacy Mission (RILM), is an instance of a holistic education program to fill the gap caused by the learning divide. The five verticals of T-E-A-C-H address Teacher Support, e-Learning, Adult Literacy, Child Development and happy School.

Ahead of Teacher’s Day, RC Bhubaneswar Smile, RC Bhubaneswar Ekamra Kshetra and RC of Passport Club of District 3262 organised a program to honour teachers in association with Brahma Kumaris at the BK Centre at Unit-8 on Sunday, 3rd September and to felicitate award winning teachers from different Govt schools. Ms. Sanjukta Sarangi, Ms.Sukanti Dei, Ms. BijayalaxmiPraharaj,Ms. Ratnamanjari Dash, Ms. Shaibali Rout,Sj. Prasanta Kumar Behera, and Sj. NiranjanBiswal were recognised for their exceptional service and commitment.

Guest speakers on the occasion were Rtn. Anuradha Rakshit, Principal Delhi Public School, Odisha who spoke on “ Creating a Welcoming School Environment” and Prof. Rtn. Jayanti Jagdev apprised the audience on “ How to be an Effective Teacher.” The Chief Speaker, BK Durgesh Nandini enlightened the students, teachers and Rotarians on “The Role of teachers in our Society,” giving a spiritual dimension to the role of teachers in moulding good human beings and citizens while appreciating their noble effort. She also touched upon the role of every individual to spread peace in the world, to imagine a world at peace as “peaceful souls.”

Underlining the importance of the teacher, Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi said “I have always felt that the textbook for pupils is (their) teacher.”  A teacher shapes the lives of innumerable students. 5th September , Teacher’s Day is celebrated in India to pay homage to our second President Dr.Sarvepalli Radhakrishnanon his birthday as a mark of respect for the great philosopher and visionary-educator.

The program was anchored by President Dr. Kajal Rakshit of RC of Passport Club of District 3262 and Vote of Thanks was given by Rtn. Abinash Mohapatra from RCB Smile. Rtn. Dr. Arati Biswal, President RCB Smile, Rtn. Dr. Mamata Dash, and Rtn. Dr. Rekha Das were actively involved in conducting the program.
